As a parent of two Forest Grove students and a professional with a 20-year career in design and marketing, I am excited to be a candidate for the Pacific Grove School Board and serve our community. My vision for PGUSD is simple yet powerful: to ensure the happiness and success of our students and staff while maintaining our reputation as a model of excellence in education. To achieve this vision, I am committed to keeping five tenets in mind for my tenure.
Student-Centered ApproacH
I believe in creating an environment where school is both fun and safe, fostering a love of learning that will last a lifetime and preparing our children for a dynamic world.
Support
Educators
Attracting and retaining excellent teachers is crucial. I will explore innovative solutions, including staff housing options, to make Pacific Grove an irresistible and viable destination for top teaching talent.
Community Engagement
We must foster a strong bond between parents, teachers, administrators, staff, and students. We are all dedicated to the same goal, and by working together, we can achieve greatness.
Board Accountability
I will advocate for setting clear, measurable goals with specific metrics to track our progress. By consistently making small, positive changes, we can achieve remarkable results over time. This approach will help us meet the outcomes we want and guide the Board’s own continuous learning.
Creative & Opportunistic
The Board and District should be proactive in pursuing grant opportunities, developing outside partnerships, and bringing additional resources and experiences to our students. Together, we can build upon our excellence and create a better future for our children and community.
Let’s Stay connected
This is as serious as we can look.
We won bingo on a cruise this summer. A thrill of a lifetime!
Shortly after this photo was taken most of us got COVID. Vacation!
Harry taking a break from whale watching in Monterey Bay.
My wife Stephanie and I moved to the Monterey Bay area in 2020 with our two hilarious—and quite cute—kids Iris and Harrison. It was a big journey from Houston, Texas in a big rented RV during the first summer of COVID, but as soon as we got to the Peninsula we knew we were in the right place.
Once we moved to Pacific Grove, we were immediately welcomed by the warmest community imaginable and our daughter found an amazing group of friends.
While our lives are full of kids and dogs and work and never-ending house repairs and all the other joys and stressors of life, I am driven to serve on the Pacific Grove Unified School District board. With Iris in fifth grade and Harrison in first, we have a vested interest in the education system. My goal is to contribute to ensuring that not only my children but all students in Pacific Grove receive the best possible education and opportunities for their futures.
You may ask, “What does this guy actually believe?”
While these aren’t answers to everything, I am in favor of being transparent (and would love to hear from you if you have other questions).
I am open to implementing innovative teaching methods that demonstrate improved outcomes. I oppose book bans, believing they do not serve our students’ interests. I support Governor Newsom’s initiatives to limit cell phone use in classrooms. While I recognize that college isn’t the right path for everyone, I believe all students should graduate high school prepared for their next steps in life. I consider abstinence-only sex education inadequate and harmful for young adults. And most importantly, I have great respect for the dedication and efforts of PGUSD teachers, administrators, and staff.
We feel fortunate to call Pacific Grove home. I want to help this already remarkable community become an even better place for every student, family, and resident.
I’m committed to making this vision a reality and would be honored to serve on the school board.
Let’s make it happen.
